| The vision of making downtown walkable is one that has been in the
works for over 50 years. Since a master plan was developed in the late
1950's, the City of Sarasota knew that in order to bring life to our
downtown we needed to build a world-class destination. The plans that are being discussed and refined center around a concept we all understand - creating a "walkable" downtown. Much like the popular destinations in Europe and also progressive cities in the United States, walkable streets provide a more dynamic and engaging destination for both locals and tourists. Sarasota already has amazing assets downtown, and this project would only highlight and enhance those assets for years to come. Over the next months we are inviting everyone to join the conversation and help us make this plan work for all stakeholders who want to see our city progress into the 21st century.
